The file also reveals the enormous difficulties the police were faced with
while trying to perform their duties to the end; with its official recording
of the events of the November Revolution in minute detail it constitutes
an outstanding document of German history. Slightly damaged in parts,

sei. Umfangreiche Berichte der Polizeireviere über die Ereignisse des
9.11.: Arbeitsniederlegungen in den Betrieben, Entwaffnung von Polizei
durch Soldaten- und Zivilistengruppen, Eroberung der Kaserne des
Garde-Füsilier-Regiments, Räumung des Polizeipräsidiums, Entwaff
nung der Polizeireviere durch dieAufständischen (9. und 10.11.), Berich
te über die Vorgänge im März 1919, Fahndungsfoto des am 12.11.1919
festgenommenen Karl Radek. Die Akte zeigt auch die enormen Schwie
rigkeiten, unter denen die Polizei bis zuletzt ihre Aufgaben zu erfüllen
versuchte, und stellt in ihrer minuziösen amtlichen Protokollierung der
Ereignisse der November-Revolution ein herausragendes Dokument der

Revolution of 1918/19 – a comprehensive police file from
the Berlin Command of the Uniformed Police dated November 1918
until March 1919
Copious documents, typewritten and in various handwritings in ink,
crayon, pencil, etc. Reports, instructions, memos, telegrams, loosely
inserted in a folder entitled (tr.) “5. Rallies. Industrial unrest from
4 November 18 onwards. (Collective call)”. Approx. 245 documents of
various formats, primarily reports on politically motivated unrests in
the 13 command areas of the urban region of Berlin, and the measures
undertaken by the police during the days of the Revolution. Including,
among others, mention of the (tr.) “deserter Pieck”, measures to fend off
strike actions and to suppress unrests, incidents that occurred during
the departure of the Russian embassy staff, and women/female workers,
seamen, Reichstag assembly, arrests and and a detailed description of
the March Uprising of 1919, more specifically: Statement on the rallies
held upon the arrival of Karl Liebknecht at the Anhalter Bahnhof rail-
way station (24 October 1918), reports on demonstrations at the
Bismarck memorial and on Königsplatz square (2 and 3 November),
safeguard measures for the major public buildings and Bellevue Palace
with indication of manning level, armament, clothing, etc. The cyclist
units of the police are instructed to wear civilian clothes (5 November),
reports on demonstrations, order of the military high command to
arrest all seamen coming from the coastal area, protection of the police
headquarters, reports on seamen who gather rioters and call on soldiers
for their solidarity, threats of strikes by the AEGworkforce, announce-
