A fine flintlock rifle by Malafosse, Montpellier, circa 1800/10 Octagonal to round barrel, the original glossy bluing partially spotty. Smooth bore in 15 mm calibre. The barrel root and muzzle with engraved and gilt décor, the silver front sight surrounded by an engraved gilt eagle. The barrel engraved and gold-damascened with the quality specification “Canon Tordu”. Several struck and gold-lined marks at the breech, the lowest reading “Juan Santon” surmounted by a crown. Slightly engraved lock with rainproof pan, signed on the lockplate “Malafosse Arquebusier”, behind the cock “Gde. Rue Nr. 1 Mont­ pellier”. Beautifully carved walnut half stock with fine chequering. Finely engraved iron furniture, vacant silver escutcheon. Silver ramrod ferrules with bases in the form of double-headed eagles, wood- en ramrod with horn tip.
