Ein Paar hohe, nahezu dreieckige Steigbügel, oben mit breitem, recht- eckigem Riemenhalter. Mit breiter Fußplatte, darauf einpunziert geo- metrische Muster. Auf den Seitenflächen symmetrisch angeordnet floraler Rankendekor mit zwei Tierköpfen. Am Übergang zum Steg je ein stilisierter runder Kopf. Steg und Riemenhalter ebenfalls mit geo- metrischem Dekor. Die Dekoration in der Tradition wikingischer Mo- tive. Außergewöhnlich seltene, hervorragend erhaltene Steigbügel aus massivem Silber! Höhe 22 cm. Gewicht 1,16 kg. Ein der Form nach vergleichbares Exemplar aus dem 10. Jhdt. im New Yorker MetropolitanMuseum (Acc.no. 1999.159), allerdings aus Eisen. Dieses silberne Paar dürfte wohl einem Fürsten zuzuweisen sein. A pair of Northern or Eastern European silver Viking stirrups, circa 11th century A pair of high, almost triangular stirrups, with a wide rectangular strap holder at the top. With a wide foot plate, on which geometric patterns are embossed. On the sides symmetrically arranged floral tendril decora- tion with two animal heads. A stylised round head at the transition to the footbridge. Bar and strap holder also with geometric decoration. Deco- ration in the tradition of Viking motifs. Exceptionally rare, excellently preserved stirrups made of solid silver. Height 22 cm. Weight 1.16 kg. A 10th-century iron specimen of comparable type in the Metropolitan Museum, New York (acc.no . 1999.159). This silver pair may be attrib- uted to a Viking prince. CF. W.A. Seaby, P.
