Der erhaltene Oberkörper bis auf das über die Schulter geworfene Tuch nackt. Das bärtige Gesicht ist fein ausgearbeitet, die Frisur besteht aus in drei Reihen übereinander liegenden Lo- cken. Die Nase leicht bestoßen, eine schmale Rille verläuft quer über das Hinterhaupt zum Kinn und zeugt davon, dass das Vorderhaupt angesetzt wurde. Meisterlichmodellierte Figur eines wohl größeren Reliefs. Höhe 42 cm. Provenienz: Aus alter belgischer Privatsamm- lung, dann belgischer Kunsthandel. Seit 2015 in Kommission im deutschen Kunsthandel. The preserved torso naked except for the cloth thrown over the shoulder. The bearded face finely worked out, the hairstyle consists of curls arranged in three rows one above the oth­ er. The nose is slightly bumped, a narrow groove runs across the back of the head to the chin, indicating that the forehead has been at­ tached. Masterly modelled figure of a probably larger relief. Kleiner Wagen mit vier beweglichen Spei- chenrädern (ein Rad ergänzt). Darauf das mit- einander kämpfende Gladiatorenpaar Thrax (mit kleinerem Schild und Beinschienen) ge- gen Murmillo (großer Schild). Blei mit gräu­ licher Patina. Breite 8 cm. In dieser spektaku- lären Form extrem seltene Gladiatorendar- stellung. Provenienz: US-amerikanische Privatsamm- lung. Erworben bei Hermann Historica, Auk- tion 50, Lot 1483. A small wagon with four moveable spoked wheels (one wheel a re­ placement). It bears two fighting gladiators with helmets and large, rectangular shields. Width 8 cm. Extremely rare, complete rep­ resentation of gladiators.
