490 | 618 Chalkidischer Bronzehelm, Typ V, Südosteuropa, 4. Jhdt. v. Chr. Aus einem Stück getriebene Kalotte mit leichtem Mittelscheitel. Die obere Kalotte von der unteren Helmwand durch einen deutlichen Ab- satz getrennt, dieser über der Stirn zu einer Spitze nach oben gezogen. Die untere Helmwand an den bogenhaften Ausschnitten für die Augen durch ein aufgelegtes Blechband verstärkt. Dazwischen der kurze, ebenfalls verstärkte Nasenschutz. Seitlich runde Ausschnitte für die Ohren. Dahinter zieht der seitliche Nackenschutz tief nach unten und schwingt dann in einem Bogen nach hinten. Zwischen den Ausschnit- ten für die Augen und Ohren ist der untere Helmrand mehrfach durch- locht zur Anbringung der Wangenklappen. Die am oberen Ende eben- falls mit einer Lochreihe versehenenWangenklappen gut erhalten. Die zum Teil gerissene und zerbrochene Kalotte fachmännisch zusam­ mengesetzt und stabilisert. Geringe Teile im Bereich der Stirn und des Nackens ergänzt. Insgesamt ca. 95 % der Originalsubstanz erhalten. Schöne grüne Patina, sonst intakt. Eindrucksvoller Helm des eher seltenen Typs V (Egg). Höhe mit Wangenklappen ca. 32 cm, Breite 17,5 cm, Länge 23,5 cm. Provenienz: Aus litauischem Kunsthandel. A South-East European Chalcidian helmet, type V, 4th century BC The skull hammered in one piece, with a slight central crown. The upper skull is offset from the lower part of the helmet by a distinct section, this extending over the forehead and drawn up to a point at the top. The lower helmet reinforced with a metal sheet appliquéd over the bow- shaped eye cutouts. Between these elements is the short nose guard, also reinforced. Circular cutouts for the ears at the sides. Behind them the lateral neck guard extending down well beyond the jaw, curving back- wards in an arc. The lower edge of the helmet with several perforations between the cutouts for the eyes and ears to attach the cheek pieces. The cheek pieces in good condition, with a matching row of perforations at the top. The partially torn and fractured skull expertly reassembled and stabilised. Small parts replaced on the forehead and the nape of the neck. Approx. 95% of the original material is still preserved. Beautiful green patina, otherwise intact. An impressive type V helmet, such as is rarely found (Egg). Height including cheek pieces approx. 32 cm, width approx. 17.5 cm, length approx. 23.5 cm.
