298 | 351 Prunkvolles herrschaftliches Kabinett, Johann Benedikt Witz (*1709 Trappstadt; †1780 Würzburg), Würzburg, um 1760 Dreiteiliger, geschweifter Aufbau in Linde und Eiche, hochfein mit jagdlichen und mythologischen Motiven beschnitzt, diese teilwiese durchbrochen ausgeführt. Schauseitig in reichen, c-förmig geschwun- genen Voluten sowie floralen Rokokoschnitzereien dekoriert. Die zen- trale Nische nach hinten verschiebbar, dabei ein Eingericht mit kleinen Fachböden frei gebend. Flankiert von pilasterähnlichen Lisenen mit kapitellartigem Abschluss. Diese wiederum gerahmt von jeweils ge- schwungenen, fein durchbrochen geschnitzten und herausnehmbaren Feldern, wobei ein Feld eine Hirschjagd und das andere eine Sauhatz zeigt. Die Mittelnische mit der vielfigurigen mythologischen Darstel- lung des Aktaion, auf der Jagd die Göttin Diana und ihre Nymphen beimBaden überraschend Als Strafe für diese Impertinenz wird er von Diana in einen Hirsch verwandelt. A magnificent stately cabinet, Johann Benedikt Witz (*1709 Trappstadt; †1780 Würzburg), Würzburg, circa 1760 The three-part, curved construction made of lime and oak, exquisitely carved with hunting and mythological motifs, some in openwork. The front embellished with lavish, curving volutes in the shape of a c and floral Rococo carvings. The central niche can be moved backwards to reveal a prospect with small shelves. Flanked by pilaster strips with capital-like finials. These each framed in turn with curving, removable, finely carved, openwork fields. One field depicting a stag hunt, the other a wild boar hunt. The central niche with a multi-figured mytholog- ical representation of the hunter Actaeon, surprising the goddess Diana while bathing with her nymphs. As punishment for his impertinence, Diana transforms him into a stag. Ornamental carvings, some remov­ able, on the top. Signs of age. Minimally restored. Dimensions 94 x 32 x 69 cm. C f .
