4735 A splendid sabre of Adolf Friedrich, first Duke of Cambridge Smooth, slightly curved blade with weak heel. Iron quillons in the form of fasces with acorn terminals, the langet decorated on either side with an eagle of sheet gold, backpiece finely cast in relief and decorated with fasces and trophies, finely chequered ebony grip. Scab- bard covered with smoothly polished fish skin and decorated en suite with iron and gilt mounts. Length 94 cm. According to the consignor the present sabre was a personal item of the later King of Hano- ver (1837 - 1851), who used this sabre in battle.
