4735 A splendid sabre of Adolf Friedrich, first Duke of Cambridge Smooth, slightly curved blade with weak heel. Iron quillons in the form of fasces with acorn terminals, the langet decorated on either side with an eagle of sheet gold, backpiece finely cast in relief and decorated with fasces and trophies, finely chequered ebony grip. Scab- bard covered with smoothly polished fish skin and decorated en suite with iron and gilt mounts. Length 94 cm. Prince Adolf Friedrich of Great Britain, Ire- land and Hanover, 1st Duke of Cambridge (1774 - 1859) was a son of King George III, British field marshal, and after 1831 Vice King of Hanover.
