Antike Waffen & Rüstungen

| 443 Niederlanden und aus England bekannt. In dieser aufwändig ge- schnitzten Ausführung absolut einmalig. A western European, baroque stonebow, mid-17th century The sturdy, slender steel bow with a rounded belly, held by two iron clamps wedged together. The skilfully knotted natural twine string of later date, with two strands, bone spacers and leather bullet sack. The iron gaffle integrated in the tiller with a heart-shaped handle and case, containing an intact lock with a one-finger nut and push- button release. A high folding front sight with rear sight and iron stirrup sight (no bead front sight). When stretched, the gaffle was secured at the back by slipping a rectangular iron ring over it. The brown stained, wooden tiller lavishly carved with a dolphin’s head, raised acanthus leaves, bands and volutes on a dotted, punched background, turned, contoured pommel. The metal parts pitted, cracks and small defects on the tiller. Length 88 cm, width 65.5 cm. Less ostentatious, contemporary stonebows of this type from the Netherlands and England are known to exist. This elaborately carved version is absolutely one-of-a-kind. 257275 II € 2.200 3833
