| 305 An etched bear spear from the armoury of the Prince-Archbishop of Salzburg, Matthäus Lang von Wellenburg, circa 1540 Broad head with pronounced ridges on both sides, the point slightly damaged. Slightly conical, octagonal socket, a rectangular aper- ture at the side to insert the cross bar. Profuse decorative black etchings on both sides. The bishop’s coat of arms with archducal coronet on the centre of the head, surrounded by deco- rative tendrils. Below which a leaping stag and an ibex, plus a hunter with a bow. The edge and socket with intricate arabesques. Original, slightly conical, round hardwood haft with two narrow side straps. The braided, nailed lanyard made of leather straps, with attached stag horn cross bar. Remnants of a velvet cover around the side straps. Length 180 cm.
