On one side of the ricasso the gilded initials “AV” (Auguste Viktoria) below crown, on the opposite side the letter “A” (Adalbert) under the prince’s crown. The back of the blade marked with the maker’s name, “M. Neu­ mann Hoflieferant Berlin”, a well-known supplier of high-quality weapons to the court. The gilded cross guard chased, with each arm ending in a clutched claw. The clam-shell shaped chappe evenly deco­ rated with a feather design, as is the gilded hilt, made of brass. The pom­ mel of elaborately carved dark-green jade in the form of a falcon’s head, the eyes made of striped agate. Brown leather scabbard with gilded mounts, the locket with two lateral suspension rings. Length 52 cm. Extremely well made, precious hunting hanger, decorated to reflect the image of the aristocratic sport of falconry. Adalbert Ferdinand Berengar Victor of Prussia (1884 - 1948), was the third son of Emperor Wilhelm II. and his wife, Empress Auguste Vikto­ ria. Having undergone a rigorous, military upbringing, he served in various commands in the imperial navy during World War I. When the monarchy was abolished he first retreated to Bad Homburg, before re­ locating to Switzerland in 1928. USA-lot – this lot is kept in the USA and will be shipped from there.
