462 | A flag cloth of the regimental standard of the Uhlan regiment „Graf zu Dohna“ (East Prussian) No. 8, circa 1900 Multi-layered cloth composed of several pieces sewn together, blue, white and black silk patterned on both sides with rich embroidery of silver thread, accentuated with red silk, silver fringes. In the centre hand-embroidered flying Prussian eagle with banner „PRO GLORIA ET PATRIA“, surrounded by a laurel wreath embroidered in silver, surmounted by the royal Prussian crown. The corner areas in blackwhite-black with hand-embroidered crowned sovereign’s cipher „WR“ in silver within a laurel wreath. The flag cloth was removed from the flagpole, the cover cloth was not cut off. Size of the flag approximately 51 x 81 cm. Isolated flaws, torn, overall condition good. Only very few standards of the Prussian cavalry are in private possession today. In May 1945, many flags and standards were looted by the Red Army and are now on storage in Moscow, some are on display in German museums, many of them, however, were destroyed during the war.
