The base with a gadrooned boss. Fancifully wrought shaft with a hippocamp in silver edged sea spray. A tree trunk growing out of its back. The shell embellished on both sides with engraved and blackened figurative décor, including a sea god (Poseidon). Press-in lid in the shape of a hoisted sail. The sail engraved “Pelikan vanDunkerke”. A fully sculptured putto with bellows, filling the sail with wind, as finial on the shell. Hallmarked with 13 lot on the base.
